Tin mining and rubber growing made the island prosperous as Chinese merchants settled here centuries ago. Portuguese traders influenced the development of a unique style of architecture known as Sino-Portuguese. Phuket town offers many tourist facilities including accommodation, restaurants and some of the best shopping on the island. « less

Nice to see some real Thai life after the plastic world of the beach strip. The walking tour is fun and there are plenty of interesting little shops. More

We went to Phuket town on a Sunday and ther was not much open around town. We finished off by going to the Night Markets at 1600h and did most of our clothes etc shopping as the prices are lot less expensive than Patong or surrounding areas. More
