My husband and I visited the temple on a Sunday morning around 7 am. Prior to coming up to the temple we stopped to see the alms offerings to the monks. The visit was a part of our day tour so we arrived by car. I suggest an early morning arrival to avoid the crowd. The temple and the surroundings... More

I really enjoyed visiting this temple, and the story behind how it was established. The gold(en) stupa up on the mountain is magnificent! But also the steps up to the temple (we took the cable cart up and the steps back down), the temples and little garden around it are very nice. Of course them there's the unhindered view over... So glad we took the advice of others who have been here and made the trip up the mountain. It's a beautiful oasis and not far outside the city. We rented a cab for the day and drove up here and after went to the Tiger Kingdom which isn't too far. If its a clear day there is a beautiful... More

Doi Suthep is a "rotal" wat and as such has more significance, is more oppulent etc. than some of the others. If you only have one day in Chiang Mai (shame...), then go see this one. It's a 45 min drive with a moped (cheap, 150 Baht for the day), or with local transport. Easy to find too.

On our second visit to this temple we still foundit quite awesome and so beautiful. The peace and tranquility even when it's busy is so soothing and quite different from the hussle of the city. The views are spectacular too.

I've visited this wat a few times now. It's a spectacular looking wat, and very busy. Get there just before 6pm and you'll be able to see the chanting each evening. There are also fabulous views down over Chiang Mai (if it's not too hazy). It's not the easiest place to get to but you can take a shared songthaew... More

We took a quick trip to Wat Phra That Doi Duthep on our last day in town, and were glad we did. It was not expensive to get to - we asked our hotel staff to write in Thai "main entrance Chiang Mai University", and "Wat Phra That Doi Duthep". A tuk tuk took :-) us to the uni entrance,... More

I made a point of putting this on my list for things to do while in Chiang Mai and was not disappointed. It is a lovely temple with some really magnificent things to behold. It was very crowded with tourists which made getting some of those great shots very difficult, but then I s probably doing it to others as... More

One of the must-go destination in Chiang Mai. If for nothing, you are at least will get away from the hustle of the city and into the cool mountain air. I highly recommend that you hire a motobike and do it yourself if you had some experiences with motorbike. Bicycle is a good choice only if you are in good... More
