I've been to Mae Ngat Reservoir many times now, normally to spend a night on one of the houseboats. I love the tranquil scenery and being able to just chill without any distractions. Be careful when booking a houseboat - some offer karaoke which isn't quite the peaceful experience everyone is looking for!!

I recently went to Mae Ngat Reservoir to enjoy a weekend with friends. We really enjoyed our time there. We stayed on the houseboats next to Eakachai. We took out our own food and drinks, and only had breakfast out there. The views were great, and sunrise was magical!

The Mae Ngat Dam & Reservoir is north of ChiangMai and, simply because there is so much to see and in ChiangMai, is often missed especially as ChiangMai is frequently a last stop for a couple of days following a seaside holiday. The dam is about 1 hour max from downtown Chiang Mai and is well worth a visit, especially if you like swimming in a really cool fresh water and seemingly bottomless lake. An entrance fee to the park is a few hundred baht each and longtail boats (about 400b a bost for return journey also) take customers out to guest...
