If I had to choose whether to go to Monkey Temple or Boudhanath stupa, I would select Boudhanath. There's no view over Kathmandu like in Monkey Temple, but Boudhanath is bigger, more impressive and it feels more spiritual. Yes there are a lot of small shops around stupa, very commercial. Amazing collection of mercendise around the Stupa which is trifle expensive for the tibetan stuff you get otherwise - but overall a treasure trove for collectors. “Beautiful, inviting and perfect timing!”

I just so happened to visit this Stupa on the Buddha's birthday, which added a whole new dimension to this amazing place. I like how this stupa is more open than the others, which allows you to walk around without crashing into statues or vendors. Very enjoyable. More

It's pretty much a no-brainer that you have to go see Bodnath Stupa if you're in Kathmandu. It's impressive in pictures, but larger than life when seen with your own eyes. More
