I visited the Dzong in the winter of 2009 and in the summer of 2011. The scenery surrounding the Dzong is beautiful and the Dzong's architecture was impressive. It is 1 of my favorite places to visit in Bhutan. More

It was constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637–38(He was a Tibetan Lama and unified the Bhutan), it was administrative centre and the seat of the Government of Bhutan until 1955. The Dzong houses the sacred relics of the southern Drukpa Kagyu school including the Rangjung Kasarpani, and the sacred remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Its most majestic and beautiful... More

This Dzong definitely had the best artwork of all the Dzong's I visited in Bhutan. It was quite impressive. I arrived in Bhutan the day after they had a huge earthquake in Northern India so there was some damage to the stupa on the grounds which was interesting to see. The Dzong is beautifully situated between 2 rivers so you... More

This Dzong is the most beautiful one I saw in the whole country. I was really excited because Ive been watching the Royal Wedding of Bhutan and my favorite movie is 'A little Buddha' :) The dzong was as beautiful as I saw in the movie and press. I spent hours in there taking pictures and enjoying the place..I can... More

We caught the Festival rehearsal, it was a lot of fun interacting with the 'clowns'. People were friendly and generous. More

We attended the festival her in March 2012. Nothing could have prepared us for the sights and sounds of this event, attended by local people and not many tourists. It was a feast of colour, tradition and pageantry. The large tanka, displayed annualy ,was enormous and overpowering. After the veneration of the tanka the music and dancing commenced and continued... More

This is where the current king got married in October 2011. It was redone for the occasion, and is in super shape. Stunning paintings and architecture... More

Breaking lazily on the morning chill, we started early from out hotel at Paro. The 3 n half hours drive is filled with beautiful site seeing and lovely view of the Himalyas at Dochula pass. The Punakha Dzong stands at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The view from the outside is breathtaking and the water... More

It is the most impressive architectural marvel of Bhutan. Enormous, like other dzongs, still serves as an administrative centre while house religious community. Is the dzong to visit if you are short of time. I am surprised does not have Unesco heritage site awarded! More

This place is spectacular - one of those ultimate massive medieval fortresses, beautiful architecture both inside and out. The location at the foothill of the mountains at the confluence of the two rivers is absolutely stunning. I went in Jan 2012 and my guide spent a lot of time explaining the mythological and spiritual significance of the various paintings on... More
