A colleague and I decided to check out the island on our free day in Uganda. Since there were only two of us, we had to split the cost of the boat. The full day tour was going to cost $440 for the slower boat (1.5 hrs trip each way, $220 each) so we opted for the speed boat for... More

Really nice day away from Kampala. We took a taxi from downtown for about $60. The ticket price included the boat to the island and the zoo. The zoo is good, but not great. The best part of the day IMO, was the birds on the island! More

We stayed overnight at Ngamba so that we could take part in the Forest Walk experience. We booked through World Primate Safaris in Brighton who organised it all for us as an add on to our holiday. Having to have so many jabs was offputting as I have a needle phobia but I had so many I think I'm over... More

We spent two nights on the island and participated in the Forest Walk one morning. It is a special experience to walk with the chimps, touch them, carry them - well worth the money. I would highly recommend this over just spending a few hours on the island watching a feeding. The tented accomodation was very nice, great food, bathroom/shower... More

I thought that going to Uganda - the gorilla treks would be the highlight of my trip - well the experience on Ngamba Island was even better! The island is neat, clean and quaint. I opted for both the caretake and integration programs - truthfully worth every dollar - especially since it supports the island. The staff is wonderfully kind... More

I took the day tour to Ngamba Island and seeing the chimps and hearing the stories about them from the Care Givers continues to resonate with me long after leaving Uganda. The complex hierarchical social structure and the way they are cared for is fascinating. I would give the following advice to travellers: 1. The day visit is only a... More

My friend and I found ourselves with a 'spare' day after our trip in Uganda, and were recommended this by Uganda Runners Express, our tour company. We had no prior knowledge of it, but had an excellent morning. The 50 minute boat ride out to Ngamba, was great fun, really lovely to feel blasted by cool 'sea' (lake) air after... More

Our time at Ngamba was like no other. We did the intergration program and I will ever forget it. Playing with chimpanzees and having such a close, intimate experience with these incredible animals should be on everyone's must-do list. No, pictures are not allowed, but with good reason. With email and social networking sites at the height of their popularity... More

In our initial planning stages, we were put off by the high cost of the overnight and chimpwalk prices. We still felt we needed to see the island and the chimps, so we opted for the half day tour. For approx $130 per person we left the boat dock at 9 and returned at 1:00. Our guide provided us with... More

We stayed in the triple tent Mika for one night and really enjoyed the experience we had with the chimps. To do the chimp integration programme, you must provide a number of vaccination records prior to boarding the boat over to Ngamba Island. Make sure you double and triple check that you have the right vaccinations before leaving your country... More
