I'm an expat living in Windhoek and head into Katutura (a suburb of squatter camps and tin houses) weekly to visit a Centre that helps children who are orphaned and vulnerable. I often drive throughout the township - far into the back hills of Havana and Hakahana - and never feel unsafe. In fact, I find people very welcoming.

If you want to experience the real life in this city then go and meet the people. They live in Katutura (the place we don't want) and, particularly if you are from Europe or the US it would be a crime to leave without seeing how people live in Windhoek. The place is Safe, just like any...

It is all in the mind of the one who has heard the wrong information. We have spent time in Umalunga in Grootfontein and found it SAFE. We have taken...

It's not an attraction, but it's a real place where poor people live. Don't go there because it's unsafe, horrifying and there's absolutely no need to. Unless you want to help. The first sevaral houses are ok, they are houses and have water and light. But if you go furthere in, you'll see people living in carton boxes without water,...
