The ruins are Roman, built over what remained of Carthage once the Romans were through destroying it. Now, modern day wealthy Tunisians are building their houses over the Roman ruins! Tucked among the most prosperous residences in Tunis are the Antonine baths and an amazing resevoir of aquaduct holding tanks which our guide said a Canadian team uncovered in just... More

The Roman Ruins were beautiful. We went as a package - Tunis-Carthage-Sidi Bou Said - with a private taxi driver who spoke very good English. Entrance fee was 9 Dinars each (which was approx GBP3.60) You need to pay and extra Dinar(40p) for your group if you want to take pictures One ticket grants you access to all 8 sights... More

Went here with a private driver , Was excellent value for money , One price for all entries to each ruins , The only problem we had was our driver was not a tour guide and could only speak a few words of English Lol ! So I really did not understand the "History" Until I met an English couple... More

Don't miss the huge site of the Antonine baths right down on the coast or the view from the old cathedral at the top of the Byrsa hill. The remains are mainly Roman rather than Carthaginian, but the area is enormous and the location beautiful. More

I spent a couple of days wandering the Carthaginian Ruins. Its a great way to spend time in Tunis if you can manage it. Easy to get to on the small local train at the end of Avenue Bourguiba (costs less than a euro) and for the equivalent of about 5 euros you have unlimited access to 10 sites and... More

the baths right by the sea were impressive. It was a pity that some of the ruins have been 'restored' a bit too much. You do need a good guide to make sense of the ruins. More

and there is virtually nothing left - and what is left is not clearly labelled or signed so you don't really know what you are looking at - plus it is covered in fag ends. The gift shop is almost bigger than the ruins themselves. Seriously disappointing - the Tunisians need to drastically improve the manner in which they present... More

Visited Carthage in mid Sept. It was still very hot (high 80s) during the day with high humidity all day long. The ruins are beautiful, but are spread out around a large area that is currently surrounded and infiltrated by the current day city. Unless you have your own transportation or a private guide it makes it hard to see... More
