Water gets very shallow during low tides and protected by a wall of lava, so it's quite safe for kids. High tides better for good swimmers. There is a good super market, including a deli & fresh made sushi, across the street to buy food for a picnic. More

We happened on this cove around sunset. It was the prettiest on North Shore Oahu. The cove is surrounded by rocks and the waves were so large that they crashed over the rocks. It was also a good place if you wanted to snorkel. Best pictures of sunsets on the island. More

I believe this place is a sancutary for fish, and fishing is prohibited. This make the place full of fish and turtles. It's great during the summer, but the winter months bring huge ocean swells, making anywhere but the inner lagoon unswimmable. Go during the summer if you want to swim here. More
