After taking several guided tours, we just wanted to do some hiking around on our own. At the last minute a local told us about the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve. So, we hopped on the bus to try it out. If we had known about it sooner, we would have planned better so we could catch the early morning bus... More

this place is excellent for hikers, variety of trails to choose from, we did the "Ben's Bluff", "Waterfall Trail" and "River Path" as well as rivertubing, all with a 7 year old, who loved it. We did not see much wildlife, a gray fox, couple of birds, lizzards and 1 tarantula. Do take bug spray with you, mosquitoes are vicious. More

Julian, our private guide, recommended Tiger Fern Trail, and told us though this hike would be "just a little difficult", it would be worth it as the falls were spectacular. Well, he was spot-on. My husband & I are hikers, and glad we were as the hike truly was strenuous, but it made jumping into the lake that much more... More

We just came back from our amazing 9-day birding trip in Belize. We stayed in Brid's Eye View Lodge (Crooked Tree) for the first 2 days, All Seasons Guest House (Hopkins) for the next 2 days, and then Crystal Paradise Resort (Cristo Rey, Cayo) for the last 4 days. All three lodges deserve "5-star" rating!!! Originally, we planned to bird... More

Book a guided tour with Gregorio from Tutzil Nah Cottages. He used to work up there on "slash and burn" before it became allocated as a reserve. Knows the jungle well and extremely knowledgeable. More

Our party of five gave it four thumbs up and one down. I'll give you the perspective from both the outdoor adventurers and The Princess, who thinks roughing it is when the TV is out at the Hilton. At the turnoff there is a women's collective. Get tickets to the preserve here. Buy handcrafts from them and support the local... More

Early morning arrival at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve is a must for the opportunity to see a lot of the birds and animals. Also cooler temperatures early in the day make hiking and climbing more enjoyable. Regardless some of the best hikes are strenuous. Bringing a snack to eat is smart. But if you forget, you can actually purchase... More

We had about a 30 minute hike to "Ben's Waterfall" -- I wonder if they should reconsider how they rate the difficulty of the trails. This was a little more strenuous than we were led to believe, but it was okay. The reward at the end of this trail is a sweet little swimming hole. We saw a grey fox... More

Surprise! That's how we felt when we arrived. In a country that has lots of litter and rubble this park is a sparkling gem. The trails are immaculately maintained and the lower park is just about perfect. Picnic under a picturesque palapa - hike through jungle & forest to amazing waterfalls....we want to go back, we didn't leave enough time... More

The tour guide was like walking with Crocodile Dundee. He knew ever plant, animal, paw print, and nuance of the rain forest. Thanks Bernard! Tubing down the lazy river for an hour was just plain fun. Playing in Antelope Falls after a short hike was great for picture taking and memories. More
