My husband and I have hiked from Aspen to Crested Butte every summer since 2006. We LOVE the hike and we love spending an evening in Crested Butte! We hike over, takes about 5.5 hours, have Dolly's Mountain Shuttle pick us up, dinner and drinks in town and then have Dolly's Mountain Shuttle take us back over the Aspen the... More

We've done this trail twice - hiking Aspen to Crested Butte. And both times we had problems with Dolly's shuttle on the other side. (West Maroon trail ends 17 miles from CB) If using Dolly's - have a "plan B" (i.e. be prepared to walk to Gothic and beg assistance or prove your survival skills and sleep in the ditch)... More

We hiked this trail from Crested Butte over West Maroon Pass to Aspen. We spent the night in Aspen and then our friends drove us back to Crested Butte. This trail is spectacular. From the Crested Butte side it is about 4 miles to West Maroon Pass and 6 miles from there to trail end at Maroon Lake above Aspen.... More

My daughter and I ,hiked to crested butte, spent the nite, and hiked back the next day. The hike is challenging but the vistas are spectacular. The trail is well marked and easy to navigate. We were lucky in that the high alpine mountain flowers were in full bloom and because of the mild winter the streams were easy to ford and... More

Wow, I just hiked from Crested Butte to Aspen in September. I was nervous because I was hiking by myself. I brought my two dogs with me. Schofield Pass was closed about 2-3 miles from the Schofield Park Trailhead on the Crested Butte side because of snow. It was an easy walk to the trailhead and added an extra 45... More

Just got back from one of the most beautiful hikes ever!! My wife and I hiked from Aspen to Crested Butte and back with a rest day in the Butte. About a 7 hour trip and worth every step. The Bells were a sight to behold as were the wildflowers on the Butte side. It was about an hour longer... More

This is the most gorgeous hike in the country, if not the world! It's certainly the most dramatic and awe-inspiring trail I've ever been on -- even better than Peru's Macchu Picchu or New Zealand's Routeburn and Greenstone Treks. The trailhead is at the West Maroon Wilderness Portal outside of Aspen. The edge of beautiful Maroon Lake is a popular... More
