Excellent current exhibits on the Pre-Raphaelite Movement (the Gallery Talk I attended was a feast of details and insights) and of "Small French Paintings" (Impressonists' tiny gems) in the East Wing. I ate in the Cascades Cafe and thought it was so-so.

Just read the other reviews. This is a fantastic gallery and an absolute must see. Allow a minimum of day though if you want to do it justice.

We wandered in here after walking through the National Archives. We didn't originally plan to visit the Gallery, but a friend recommended it. Looking back, I wish we had made a list in advance of the things we wanted to see. The Gallery is huge and can easily become overwhelming. The first thing we noticed is that it wasn't as... More

Degas, Renoir, DaVinci, Picasso. Need I say more? A must see for anyone visiting Washington. The rotunda was especially pretty

I was surprised how interesting and diverse the art collection is here. Sculpture, paintings, furniture. They have it all. Give yourself at least a couple of hours.

We left the West wing of the museum depressed by what we had just seen. Over 20 pre-Renaissance paintings had been retouched using a palette of pastel day-glow like colors. Most fine detail had been painted over and obliterated. It was if the restoration contract had been given over to Marvel Comics. One five piece set of panels was illustrative;... More

After a walk through the Sculpture Garden, we entered the West Building. The artwork was impressive! I felt as if I was walking through a maze and needed the exit signs and map to navigate in and out of the collections. Our favorite was an exhibit of photography called Faking It.

This is one of my favorite museums anywhere. I recently went and caught the opening of the Diaghilev exhibit (When Music and Art Went Dancing) that tells the story of the Ballets Russe and Nijinsky through costumes and historic video (incredible film of Nureyev dancing Afternoon of a Faun and Petrouchka, and Baryshnikov dancing the Prodigal Son). This exhibit is... More

Traveled to DC for the express purpose of seeing the Diaghilev exhibit and we were thrilled that we did. Anyone in the fine arts, dance, music, or theater, must see this extraordinary show. It takes you back to a golden time of creativity in the dance and it will inspire you. Don't miss this one. It is jaw-dropping stunning. Brilliantly... More

This was an amazing gallery! Rembrandt, Picasso, Van Gough - you name it, it is here! Picture taking IS allowed and the staff is so very helpful. You can spend HOURS here looking at painting, sculptures, furniture and the architecture itself. 2 thumbs up!
