It was amazing to see the monument in person after seeing it on TV so many times. However, after a small earthquake in the D.C. area last August, the monument elevator is closed so you will not be able to travel to the top of it.

Years ago I climbed he steps and the challenge and view were worth it. Today it is closed due to the earthquake damage. I really hope they can repair it because it's a piece of history that needs to reopen to the public

This is a must when in Washington. You will need to arrive at the ticket office very early as the tickets sell out very quickly. It is well organised and the views from the little windows at the top are very good.

This is quite an impressive monument. Not because of any particular form, but because of its size. Even if we are used to seeing it on TV or on movies, when you are down there and look up, you feel it's endless! Try to go at night.

The spring earthquake closed the Washington monument to visitors. I didn't realize it but the construction is a series of blocked placed on top of each other.
