We stopped hear because of a visit to the area - had not heard of it before. The historic farm displays, old mansion, trails, shell littered coastline on the river/Cobham bay. The gardens were very pretty in April, but I can imagine how wonderful it would be to see the huge Crepe Myrtles in bloom later in the year. I... More

This is a wonderful day trip. Take the Jamestown ferry and look for signs to the state park. This park is actually a working plantation from the 1700s to present which was donated to the state by its owners in the 1960s. There is a furnished antebellum mansion with guided tours, a farm museum which was wonderful--many many pieces of... More

I took my kids up to Surry for the Pork, Peanut, & Pine Festival at Chippokes state park. It's always the third weekend in July. The festival itself is about how it sounds; it is pork and peanut country afterall. :) $5 admission; kids under 10 are free. Free petting zoo; lots of vendors and live music. There is also... More

We spent a full week in Chippokes State Park VA. We stayed in Cabin 4 (newly renovated and just lovely!) A/C worked well as the temps broke all records end of June 2010. Perfect for family of 4 or 5. Full kitchen with dining table. Full size fridge side by side and stove and microwave. Two cozy bedrooms (one for... More

The cabin was not at all what was advertised on their website. The website showed the floorplan to have three bedrooms and two baths. However, the cabin only had one bath and according to their guestbook their guest wrote that the cabin had mice and that some of them saw ghosts! Another guest wrote that they had a blackout at... We stayed three nights at Chippokes Plantation State Park in a 3 bedroom cabin. The cabin is one of three rustic cabins on the property. Our cabin (#2) was built circa 1850 and was originally the overseer's cabin for the plantation. It was lovely and truly felt like a 150 year old home with the exception of having indoor plumbing,... Our family visited this state park during a trip we made to the Jamestown Settlement. We took the ferry over. It was a beautiful day so it was nice to be on the water. We took a tour of the mansion, looked at the farm museum, and walked around the property. The best part was our guide at the mansion.... More

With the 400 year anniversary, the Jamestown area is showing off the best they have to offer. Our family did our first trip to this area during March 30 to April 7, 2007. Since we like to camp, we found that the Chippokes Plantation National Park Service site was newly spruced up and renovated with lots of improvements. It is... More

Now this place is big but you wouldnt know it when you first arrive for camping. The campgrounds is small. Thats a good thing. Its very quiet and cozy even when fully packed with campers. The bath house is clean and the camp host is sweet. The pool is nearby and big. Its also free to campers, just see the... More
