for $6 a car you can climb bear butte over 4000 feet excellent climb give yourself plenty of time in hot weather take plenty of water do not touch any thing to do with the indians as they leave medicine bundles and you must remember this is a holy site for the native americans and they still climb this mountain... We visited Bear Butte and were pleasantly surprised to find it not crowded, very quiet, and peaceful. It was a welcome change from some of the more well-known and touristy areas, like Devil's Tower. The history of Bear Butte and it's importance to American Indians is very interesting and was provided to you at the visitor's center. It has nice... More

Our family recently visited Bear Butte State Park to climb to the top of this lone mountain. We were there in the off-season, so the visitor center wasn't open.
