It was a pleasant surprise to come across this engineering marvel on our trip from New York to Virginia Beach. The plan was to avoid the traffic on Rt95 in the DC/Baltimore/Richmond areas, so we planned to take the ride through the countryside with the traffic lights, strict cops and all. Had not read up about this bridge, only knew... More

Whatever you do, at least once in your life, cross from Virginia Beach to the Eastern Shore of Virginia (or vice-versa) via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. And if you do take this crossing, be sure that you don't miss the sunset. It is nothing short of spectacular. They have recently upgraded the decor and food service at the... More

I was in a hurry, and ironicly, as I was crossing the bridge for the very first time, a very rare, hopefully once in a lifetime, earth quake took place underneath. To be honest, I didn't feel a thing as I was driving, But at least now I can remember the date better. To be honest, I have a fear... More

Part bridge, part tunnel, this takes you across Chesapeake Bay right at the coast line where the Atlantic meets the bay. There is a fishing pier you stop at part way out, it's a great view point, with a restaurant and bathroom facilities. We usually take the time to stop and watch the ships coming and going. We like this... More

It was our first time going on the bridge and tunnel, My boys loved it. (16 and 5). We stopped at the restaurant to eat lunch. It was worth the price. The food was great and the view was great, it overlooks the pier and bay. You have to go the speed because the do clock you on it. If... More

We needed to get to the east side of Virginia and this was the natural way, but what a way. Some people seem to think the $12 is steep, but I thought it was rather cheap mile for mile than other tolls. It is spectacular and is a tourist route in itself. We stopped at the pull off to buy... More

This is always one of my favorite parts of any trip to the Outer Banks. I LOVE bridges and crossing this one offers spectacular views of the ocean and the bay, birds, small boats and huge cargo ships. For engineering junkies, it's a must-drive. The toll is steep at $12 and though I just saw another reviewer say you get... More

I love driving over this modern engineering wonder. It's so cool that when you start out driving on the bridge, you can't see the other side so you feel like you're driving out into the ocean. The bridge lanes feel much wider than many other bridges I've driven over (e.g., Mackinaw), though the tunnel is necessarily narrower. It's amazing just... More

This thing is unbelievable. It seems like you are down in the tunnel forever and when you're not, You are up above driving on top of the water on a never-ending bridge it seems like. What an amazing feat of construction and design. It really is something that everybody should experience. Really neat. More
