Bodie is a very strange place... the best preserved ghost town I visited so far. We visited in early April, the road to the park just opened, and there were very few people. Strong wind was blowing and howling in the chimneys sending chills along the spine. There is a store, gymnasium, club, school, hotel... everything like in real town.... More

this was very impressive. the old buildings are not very maintained but a very large part of the area is still there. really cool. you must see this. there's a shopping area, an old car and the old mining building. it's all really large (not as the other ghost towns you usually see). this is very impressive. just to mention,... Bodie is by far the best ghost town in all the west....hundreds of buildings in a state of "arrested decay" they pacth the roofs and such with old time roofing materials to keep em from caving in and getting damaged from teh 17 feet of snow they recieve in winter! there is NO FOOD or drinks so bring your own... If you are at all interested to get a real life feeling, like as though you were there, for the lifestyle of the pioneers in the Gold Rush days, you've gotta stop here. Takes about 2-3 hours off main road including the 15 or something mile drive in from 395. Some people stay longer and I can understand why. Be... More

Unlike many 'Ghost Town's' in the US, Bodie is the real thing. A total lack of 'Disneyfication', just the old abandoned buildings and a sense of real isolation and desolation. Bodie has a real atmosphere to it, helped by the old furniture and artefacts in the buildings. I loved all the old false front stores, which have a real wild... More

This is an extremely well preserved ghost town. The drive to it seems like 100 miles. We were visiting Yosemite and had been wanting to make the drive. Am so glad we made it this time. Loved that you can go into some buildings and there was still furniture. I loved the funeral parlor with all the coffins and the... More

The long bumpy road to the ghost town of Bodie is well worth the trip. The town emerges as scattered wooden buildings surrounded by lush green grass and a herd of steer munching contentedly. It is amazing that so many buildings have stood the test of time since the horrific fire that emptied the town of its inhabitants in 1931.... More

While researching our trip to Yosemite, Tahoe and Sonoma, I came across info on Bodie and thought it looked like a really neat place to visit. I was having a hard time fitting it into our already tight itinerary. I am SO glad we made the stop!! It made for a long day, driving from Tenaya Lodge, south of Yosemite,... More
