I didn't know much about the Picton area or its history before our visit. This museum was full of information & I learnt alot from going there.

This museum packs a great deal of information and a large number of exhibits in a small area. I lost myself in the museum for a couple of hours without realising the time had passed.
Picton Museum was very interesting and well worth a look.Had a great time.Love looking at all the olden day pieces.
Interesting small museum - good displays - lots of local history about the whaling in the Queen Charlotte Sounds Only $NZ 5 admission , something of interest for everyone.
Throughly enjoyed this, I found the history of the whaling really interesting and even though the museum is small I spent a pleasurable afternoon reading about the Picton.
What a disappointment this is a traditional museum full of written facts. Too much Mauri information. Could be made a lot more interesting.
There a lot of people who work in this Museum who are very knowledgeable and helpful, the whole place is great in that they change the themes and have some good displays too.
Well worth a visit and especially if you want to do some research on your family history, they have a huge amount of info there on the...

Kia ora Picton . Hi Mike T at the museum .I was born in Picton but have lived in Australia since 1975. I visited the museum in 1995 and was really proud to see photos of my grandparents displayed . The carved black seat [throne chair] is spectacular. Thanks alot . Ka kite Ngaire Ruth Matene { Martin]
I have similar comment to allot of people i cant believe you have to pay to get in. They need to get with the times.
Went to the museum as the weather was really bad one day and the activities outdoor were not possible. The museum if 5 dollars entry. And not at all interesting, plenty of old pictures and portrait of the famillies of Picton. and some old furnitures, and papers, and old balein stuff, pictures of the rugby local team... Not worth it
