Great place to visit - the tour guides know their stuff and the gift shop is better than most. Don't think the tour is suitable for young children.

The Fremantle prison lives up to its reputation -- it is really worthwhile to go there! We took the "Tunnel tour", which involves climbing down a shaft, squatting in tunnels, boat-ridning through the tunnels, etc. Very interesting history, good and knowledgable guide (and funny -- you made our day, Tristan!). All in all -- an excellent museum experience.

I really enjoyed this tour of Fremantle Prison. The tour guide gave a very informative tour of the whole prison including death row and the gallows. I have been to Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco and the Fremantle Prison was just as interesting and probably a better more informative tour. This is a must do when you are visiting Perth... More

I have been here several times, both with school groups and family. A must to visit for overseas visitors if they want to learn about early Australia although you should be prepared for this discomforting experience.

When in Fremantle, a top sight to see is the prison. Taking a guided tour of the area, you can hear the various stories of escape and imprisonment which gives the place an even more erie feeling - especially death row!
