The flat of the artist couple Romans Suta and Aleksandra Belcova in Elizabete iela is now a musum under Latvian National Museum Of Art. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays, and not that easy to find, although it is on Riga's main street just a stone throw from the landmark Hotel Latvija. We visited in March, and were not too surprised... More

The main building is very impressive, but you got to see the paintings if you like art. I heard the main building is under renovation.

The work of Klucis was a real find, we had not heard of him or seen his work, mainly photographic collage during the Russian constructivist period. I found the work exciting and the film interesting full of original footage and informative about art during the 30s. Unbelievable that he was arrested and shot after the amount of work he had... A wide collection of art which told a story about Latvia and its art history. Very fair price too. I loved the late 19th century works of Latvian landscapes.

We really enjoyed the film biography about Latvian avant-garde artist and photographer Gustav Klutsis.

Building is wonderful, collection is massive and reflecting different periods. I believe then its down to personal taste, I founded this to be a depressing museum, art in soviet time was only used for propaganda so was that really art? Most of the paintings for other era are dark, and gloomy in the style and subjects. Still go for the... More

The museum sits on one of the grand, wide boulevards in Riga, and is an imposing building from 1905. The charm of it inside is that it's not altered much from those days, but is badly in need of refurbishment: tiny, old-fashioned washrooms; an improvised gift shop set up in the entryway; no cafeteria; not good facilities for people in... A nice museum with an interesting range of exhibits. Particularly interesting was the room given over to Gustavs Klucis and his montage designs for Soviet posters. The video, in English, on his life and work is well worth sitting down for. Very engaging. Lasts 56 minutes, but we missed the first 20 minutes.
