A group of 8 of us visited this prison after the hotel viru KGB tour on a package. Our guide Rasmus was very educated in the history of Tallinn, the KGB and the prison. The prison is raw and more fascinating as a result. We had it to ourselves and that only added to its sinister feel. It was full... More

Ive put this review so visitors might not waste a walk in the deep snow and freezing wind as I did. The maps all advertise it and a pleasant cafe bar within but its only when you get to the gates that you find its only open later in the year!!!! You can arrange group bookings in advance apparently though. More

Came across the prison on a walk from the centre of Tallinn, and probably the best 2EU I have ever spent. We were allowed to roam the whole of the prison without any tour guide which made it a little more spooky. Rooms included: hanging room, you could see the hook the noose hung from; operation room with books that... More

I visited the Patarei prison in mid February at night. I was advices by a friend to book a tour when it's dark. The darkness adds so much to the experience. It's hard to believe that the buildings where used as prison just 7 years ago. In the winter it's very cold and windy at the prison so please remember... More

Visited in the summer, checked the website before i left to see if it was open and it clearly states 'Open from May 18th to 25th of September every day 12:00 – 19:00' Would of been nice of people to check properly if it was open before posting negative reviews because of their own shortcomings in planning, especially to a... The only reason Ive posted poor is we went to Tallinn in December, really wanted to go to the prison and were told its closed and really open during spring/summer. Dont know how accurate that is so check before you go as it sounds a really good trip. More

For €2 this was a brilliant adventure. Tallinn Prison is a bit of a walk from the old town: exit the old town at Fat Margaret's Tower, head up to Kalasadama street, then follow the old railway line (which is now a cycle path) in a north-westerly direction for 1km. It's not the first entrance to the building - if... More
