Donnelly River cruises is an award-winning experience not to be missed. Operating daily, with bus pick-ups also available from Pemberton and Manjimup, Donnelly River Cruises conducts a river cruise of the lower twelve-kilometre section of the Donnelly River, within the confines of the D’Entrecasteaux National Park, in the South West of Western Australia. The cruise area, including the beach landing, encompasses an area that is not accessible by 4-wheel drive and is only accessible by boat. The atmosphere of the cruise is to “sit back, relax and enjoy” as you meander through the diversified eco systems of the river. In a conversational format where you are encouraged to join in, Peter & Shaun will enlighten you about the river, the ecology and geology of the area, the fauna and flora and some of the history of the area. The scenery is constantly changing as you commence in lush Jarrah and Marri forests, and then pass through the Paperbark and wetlands, past the limestone cliffs, to the majestic Southern Ocean. On the way you will cruise past the unique holiday huts nestled amongst the towering Marri trees and coastal dunes. While at the mouth of the river, you are given the opportunity to disembark and experience the isolation and pristine quality of the area, with a walk along the beach for about half an hour. The beach is approximately 2 km long confined by rocky outcrops at each end with no vehicle access at all. You are able to stroll along the soft white beaches in virtual isolation except for possibly a few locals trying their hand at some beach fishing. After toe tapping with the Southern Ocean, you will make your way back to the boat where you begin the return journey with a morning or afternoon tea complimented by Pete’s “fantastic” muffins. There is no one photo to depict this amazing cruise!!! « less

What a terrific way to spend a morning in Pemberton. May is the perfect month to cruise down the Donnelly River. The peace and quiet of the river and surrounds was beautiful. Shaun, our skipper and guide was so knowledgeable on all aspects of the ecosystem and history of the region. We have waited a long time to do this... More

Had my parents staying down in Pemberton for a stay and my girlfriend and I decided to join them for the weekend. My mother called and suggested we all do the cruise as it was well priced and sounded like a reasonable way to spend a few hours. And was it? HELL YEAH!! From the moment we set foot on... More

A wonderful cruise into real wilderness: we enjoyed the ever-changing and almost totally unpoilt character of the river, the story of its part in the ecosystem of the region, the variety of trees and flowers, the limestone cliffs and the birds, that isolated and truly wild beach on the Southern Ocean, and even the shacks along the lower banks. And... More

A highlight of our trip to Pemberton and the absolute best way to spend half a day. We found it on the web and the staff were really helpful when we booked. We went on a morning trip and their bus picked us up from Pemberton. The river was fantastic and the sceneray amazing and we went right down to... More

Staying in Pemberton, we saw a brochure for the Donnelly River Cruise. We booked it through the Tourist Bureau and pick up was organised at the Pemberton Tourist Bureau by Donnelly River Cruises at no extra charge. We meandered down the 12 klm stretch of water to the limestone caves at the end. It was so peaceful! The informative commentary... More

We took the morning cruise down the Donnelly River. The guide for the tour was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. The scenery on the first part of the journey is interesting rather than beautiful but the destination is certainly worth waiting for, a deserted beach which is reached only by boat. You get 20-30 minutes to wander along the beach and... More

Waiting in the cool Pemberton morning sunshine in anticipation of adventure. We were not disappointed. A really professional outfit. Book on line and arrange pickup from chalets to the Donnelly river boat ramp in a bus. Lively conversation with a small group with expert observation and information from the bus driver and eventual boat skipper. After a 30 minute journey... More
