What a con job. A real cranky old man who has done this thousands of time. The thing I really despise is the lack of visibility regarding cost. This should be immediately addressed and rectified.
John is a passionate and informative host. Website very clear on $5/$3 charge which is very reasonable.
I really enjoyed the pelican feeding experience, it was well organised, heaps of pelican's and the audience was huge. The host was a character, a larger than life Aussie but enjoyable none the less. The host pointed out a couple of pacific seagulls laughing at the start of the show; they must have been laughing at the audience because nearly... More
The signs to feeding are everywhere when you go to Kingscote, the place looks open and it seems as this is something to attract people to town with no signs for a fee. There are plenty of wild pelicans hanging around ion the "stage". The "feeder" shows up with a bin full of fish scraps and starts the show, where... More
If you want to know more about pelicans and to get a better picture of these beautiful birds, you must not miss the pelican feeding at 5pm at Kingscote wharf. Certainly a must for shutterbugs.
We arrived prior to 5pm to be greeted by some hungry pelicans waiting patiently. John the feeder arrived and gave a quick run-down of what would happen. He then stated that this was something he did on his own and there was substantial cost involved so there would be a charge of $5 per adult and $3 per child. We... More
It was a lot of fun to watch. The gentleman who feed the pelicans was a real showman and everyone appeared to enjoy his performance.
We didn't feel like sitting out in the cold so just dropped in to have a quick look from the road above. Missed out on the commentary but got to see the manic acitivity as the numerous pelicans argued over the fish on offer.
You wont see this number of birds anywhere in one go, frollicking and getting together for sa theatrical feeding. A worthy cause and what a photo opportunity!! Dont leave with out seeing these majestic birds before you see the fairy penguins at the wharf later in the evening. Thank you for the experience :)
