My recent college-grad son and I did the two-day tour of Kangaroo Island in late April 2023. We wanted to see native animals. The tour was everything we expected and more! Pedro and Brianna were our guides -- Pedro gave most of the commentary while Brianna drove. I really appreciated the safety of having a dedicated driver. Both Pedro and Brianna were knowledgeable, well-organized, and welcoming, plus they were a lot of fun to be with! Our tour group only had five members. Pedro and Brianna were experts at spotting animals; starting with seeing a couple of koalas high in the trees within the first hour of the tour. We also saw dolphins (fins in the distance), sea lions (moms and pups), seals, pelicans, kangaroos, and a goanna lizard. Sally in the Kangaroo Island office, who had been helpful all along during booking, also recommended the separate little penguin tour in the evening (booked separately with another company). I'm glad she recommended it because otherwise we would have missed seeing the little penguins and wallabys! Kangaroo Island, though ravaged by wildfires in 2020, is springing back quickly. We'll always remember our visit fondly, thanks to Brianna, Pedro, Sally and the KI team.

We had the most fantastic 2 days with this small group tour of Kangaroo Island. The first day was mostly about the wildlife and the second day was more about the scenery, even so we still saw loads of wildlife on day 2 too. As a small group, day one had 8 people and day 2 six. Our guide and driver was Josh, and he was brilliant. He was knowledgeable, friendly, very accommodating to the groups interests. Lunch and morning tea was included and everything was delicious. It was really nice to have a local Kangaroo Island wine with lunch, and both the red and white were lovely. Everybody enjoyed them. I cannot praise or recommend this tour company enough it really was one of the highlights of our six week trip to Australia

We did the 2 day 2 night Kangaroo Island tour with our guide Bjorn. Absolutely wonderful! We had a wonderful time from pickup at our hotel in Adelaide to when we returned. Every box was ticked with regard to wildlife, accommodation, guide and transport. Very happy to recommend and so pleased we stayed the second night on the island.

This all day in the bus and van tour was extremely disappointing . Our expectation for a “4 W D’ nature experience did not include a 2 hour ride back and forth from the ferry on a gigantic coach but more importantly spending all day with in a van with a ( lovely ) but aged couple was far from what we thought would be an active nature experience . I knew it would be a long day but very little about it was well done , private or “ gourmet” . There must be better options, shop around as this was not priced properly for the sub par experience

We did a full day along the Western End of KI visiting sites on the Southern ocean coast and Flinders Chase NP. Leoni was our guide and she did an excellent job. Because FC NP is on the opposite end of the island from the ferry dock, be aware this trip has a lot of "road time" and is probably best done as part of a two day, overnight tour.

For the price paid we expected a bit more. The tour guide was great but the tours beside the seal beach were not all that interesting. The food quality also was very poor.

We highly suggested it because of the well-planned tour, good itinerary, meals, and lodging, and our guide Nicki's extensive and informative remarks.

This trip was perfect from start to finish. Many have complained about the ferry transfer to/from Cape Jarvis- we had no problems
We were fortunate with the weather- the first day was a bit gritty - overcast with heavy showers so we had lots of indoor activities including oyster farm visit (my husband proudly did his first shuck!) gin tasting and wine tasting with lunch but were still fortunate to get out to cape Willoughby. The second day, the weather improved and we had a full day and beautiful bush lunch visiting the national park, which includes the seals, who had young pups, the remarkable, admirals arch and the north coast. The park is opening to visitors, the regrowth from the fires is quite advanced- well worth a visit- I will return.

Excellent tour. Guides own experience on the Island showed in the detail narrative he provided. Taken to great scenic locations and had a wonderful lunch in the companies reserve.
Had a bit of car trouble on the return leg but it did not affect the tour and the guide Hamish ensured we had a replacement vehicle to get us back to the ferry for our return to Adelaide. We felt we were well looked after.
Really enjoyed the guides personal knowledge and his efforts to provide a memorable trip. It made us want to come back for a longer visit.

Very well run tour and Nikki was a very knowledgeable tour guide. Nikki is a local with great background of the island and so enthusiastic for the birds/animals that habitat
on the island. In just 2 days ( long days) we covered the entire island and Nikki gave up tips as to what to see on our 2 free days before we flew out. We are most grateful to Nikki Reman as she made our stay in Kangaroo Island not only enjoyable but most memorable.

We were picked up by a bus and transported to the bus station and had about an hour ride to the ferry that took us to Kangaroo Island. We actually had a 6 am scheduled pickup but was delayed until 9 due to weather. Be aware that the ferry is sometimes cancelled due to weather.

We are staying at Links Lady Bay next month. Would love to do a day trip to Kangaroo Island. We will have a hire car. Where do the day trips depart from ?
SeaLink South Australia
Adelaide, Australia2 contributions
Hi Kerrie R, you have a few options. You can drive your car to the Cape Jervis Terminal and leave it there for the day while you take a day tour to Kangaroo Island. Otherwise you could take your car on the ferry. You can leave it in the open car park or there is a secured car park area.
On our website you can find the one day tours under 'tours' tab. We also have a sale on ferry fares and day tours, available for purchase until 16th January 2018.
Give us a call if we can assist you any further.
Kind Regards,
The Team at SeaLink

Hi we are 2 senior ladies arriving on 25 jan on cruiseship. A half day trip interests us....overview of natural beauty of the island. Any suggestions?
SeaLink South Australia
Adelaide, Australia2 contributions
Hi Happy4615, you'll arrive in Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. We'd recommend taking at look at the Markets on the Penneshaw Oval and then going for a walk on the Iron Stone Hill walking track off Binneys Track.
On the SeaLink website you'll find a 'things to do' tab. This has activities that take you to see different parts of Kangaroo Island. We'd recommend booking these activities in advance.
Let us know if you have any questions.
Kind Regards

Hi Elise, I'd recommend driving to Cape Jervis and taking your car over on the SeaLink ferry.
For affordable accommodation perhaps Vivonne Bay Backpacker Lodge in the Western region of Kangaroo Island. This is also close to many of the natural icons such as Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch in the Flinders Chase National Park.
There are also affordable caravan park and camping options available.
I'd also recommend at least 3 days to explore the island so you can see a bit more.
Good luck with your travel plans :)

I am hiring a car in Adelaide and driving to Kangaroo Island at the end of March. I will be spending 3 full days on the island and naturally want to see all the attractions, but at a leisurely pace as I am 71yo. Also I am a pensioner so want to get the best value for money. Can I get a map and follow directions to all the main attractions on my own? Would I have to book to see some of the things like the birds of prey show? Your advice would be appreciated. Barbara T.

Hi Barbara,
In short: yes. Three days is time enough to self-drive around the island and not miss anything. And maps are available to direct you. Be aware, many island roads are dirt but the main roads to all the major attractions are more than adequate. On previous visits, we just rang up the Birds of Prey on the morning to book a spot so perhaps call them beforehand (the show there is wonderful by the way). If you find the driving distances too much, I would recommend KI Odysseys highly as they have one-day and two-day tours as well which are brilliant.
Have fun!

Hi Iriishlasstwiceremov, my name is Rubina and I work with KI Odysessys. cmclean1 and RockyMountaintravel have already given you some great advice. Explore Kangaroo Island for 2 days, see the city of Adelaide and beach at Glenelg in 1 day, and then head out to one of our wine regions for a day. Barossa, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale are the closest winery regions to the Adelaide CBD. Enjoy your time in South Australia!

Hi. My wife and I want to come to the island on the 23/2 and leave on the 25/2. We will be staying in Craigmore, Adelaide and would like to get to the island as early as possible. We can hire a car and drive, although if we go out with you for two days, then perhaps a car is an inconvenience. We would like to fly out of Adelaide airport to go to Sydney on the 25th but are ok leaving late as long as we can get a plane. We would like a good level of accommodation, overlooking the ocean if possible.
What can you suggest / recommend and if flying from Adelaide is our best option, can you give me times and prices. Thanks Roger Goodman

I also recommend flying to Kangaroo Island as you will also waste too much time traveling otherwise. I also recommend Odyssey Tours as they can make it all happen for you, transportation, transfers, hotel and of course their tour guide was very, very good. If you do your own drive tour it is likely you will miss some of the best sights.
