Located on a suburban hillside overlooking Geraldton's foreshore, the HMAS Sydney Memorial has been carefully planned to capture different aspects of the loss of the Sydney. The memorial gives a strong sense of the wartime tragedy.

This is a very moving Memorial to the men who died on HMAS SYDNEY. The bronze statue of the Mother looking out to sea was incredibly moving, her face showed the grief so many Mothers must have felt when they heard the news that the Sydney had been sunk. The seagull sculpture representing the 600 or so souls who were...

Superb memorial in a really great location with superb views across the town and ocean. Plenty of grass to relax on. Enjoy the creative and artistic appeal of the memorial while soaking up the story of the encounter between HMAS Sydney and the German raider, Kormoran.

The fine Art done on the hillside above Geraldton seems to me very adequately done, providing the visitor with every aspect of the HMAS Sidney`s drowning at war times. At early morning I was impressed by the Sunday early morning prayers and parade 23rd of April

Beautiful at sunset and interesting by day. Maritime history told in an engaging way and a beautiful memorial. It's a credit to the people who made it happen.

The hemisphere canopy contains the outlines of 645 seagulls, one for every seaman who perished and the marble walls contain their names. The bronze statue of a woman looking out to sea in the...
