Seeing the penguins, and the march of the penguins is really amazing. You can see them come in from the ocean, walk on the beach and walk up the hill to their "home". Well worth the time and money.

Fantastic conservation project which enables people get up close to these magnificent penguins. Very interesting network of tunnels to get to the penguins. Pros - great tour guide, really getting close to the penguins in their natural habitat. Tips - bring warm clothes - you have been warned!
With this being a family owned and funded place, with all the trenches to limit intrusion on the Yellow-eyed penguins I think this is wonderful place aimed at conservation and not necessarily profit
The tour was brilliant. You take a minibus over the hill and then walk through a maze of tunnels to various viewing points. You will get to see yellow eyed penguins in very close proximity, however it’s better to go at the end of the day when most of them are back from fishing.
When you get to the Penguin Place, ask when is the best time to see Penguins. Then book that time. This is a great place. The Penguins actually book their hotel reservations at the Penguin Place. Human Visitors pay for this hotel with free health care for the penguins. The more penguins they help the more there is to see....

A definite must-see if you're near Dunedin or on the Otago Peninsula! Go in the late afternoon and you'll see the penguins coming home from a day at sea!
This was not only educational but so exciting to see the Yellow Eyed Penguins. Our ticket money goes to look after the penguins, provide them a safe & healthy environment. Very good indeed.
Visiting Penguin Place was very expensive but since we were unlikley to visit New Zealand again, we opted to go there. Its an amazing place and very well organised and delivered by warm-hearted and dedicated staff. A series of partly-covered trenches in the dunes allow you to get so close to the penguins that you can almost touch them, without...

Best wildlife experience I've been to, got up close to a penguin feeding her young - all from the safety of a hide to avoid disturbing them. Guides are very knowledgeable and add to the visit.
"Best wildlife experience I've been to" We appreciate your feedback! what more could be said?! :)

We visited around Easter time (early April) and went on the last tour of the day, around 5.30pm I think. We have 3 children under 8, I was a little nervous as to how the 3 year old would go as it is a long tour. (We had visited here prior to having children so I knew roughly what to...

Wow! Thanks for the well written review, it really sounds lie you had a fantastic time with the family! We are accommodating with young children and we appreciate how you moved back when they started to make a bit of noise. The kind of viewing is dependent on the time of year, sounds like you struck lots of activity and...
