We spend time strolling along the banks of the Avon during a visit to Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens. We also spent time tracing the source of the Avon stream, and where the river mouth opens into the sea. The Avon is a huge asset for Christchurch. More

Still makes for a pleasant walk, though since it was used as an open sewer after the earthquake, not so keep to paddle the section below the CBD any more. Some slumping of river banks and damage to walking paths as a lot of land damage occurred near the river. More

This was a lovely 30 minute excursion in Christchurch. The punts are lovely old boats but also very comfortable. They provided blankets to us as the weather was a little cool. The boat sheds are delightful old building with lots of character. The punt ride goes through the botanic garden and was very lovely. More

Its lovely to walk along the avon its such a shame there's so much damage near the city end especially the stunning bridges, but thats part and parcel of christchurch at the moment! More
