We stopped on our travel from Westport to Greymouth and were not disappointed. Our disabled daughter loved the easy walk to Pancake rocks and was mesmerised with the crashing of the waves onto the rocks and into the inlets. We stayed longer than anticipated and enjoyed every minute. The conservation group has done wonders with the preservation and the way... More

Paparoa is well worth a half day of hiking and exploring. The famous pancake rocks are an easily accessible must-see (and are wheelchair accessible). Then head north on the main road a few hundred meters to check out a cavern (bring a torch!), then continue a bit farther up the road to a trail head that leads along a river... More

We drove through the amazing Paparoa National Park way and the roads are incredible - stunning views, changing every few miles. Its an amazing peice of road. The Punakaiki pancake rocks are a great place to stop. The blow-holes and worn away cliffs are really good and remind you of the power of the sea. More

This park has one of nature's best wonders - the pancake rocks, which look like stacked pancakes on a plate formed into various shapes by the wind and other elements. The rocks are basically the remains of millions of years worth of calcified animal remains that were pressed together by upward forces from the earth's core and downward forces from... More

The Pancake Rocks (Punakaiki) at Paparoa National Park are astonishing. The paths leading to the rocks are well kept and safe for children. I have a 2 year old, so this was a concern. The rocks are amazing, the sound of the waves hitting rocks astonishing. The "chimney" was probably the most exciting view, if you got a chance to... More

I could not believe my eyes when I entered Papaora National Park. Most people (tourist buses etc) flock to the Pancake Rocks : to me Pancake rocks are [-], a tourist trap and it's a pity to witness everyday comings and goings of tens of buses that stop in Punakaiki just for 5 minutes in the Rocks !!! The real... More
