So close to the city, but really a wild place. I enjoyed the wind & the waves, and the views from our friend's house 100 steps up the cliff! Can watch the ferries plying the Cook Strait. And not far to walk to excellent cafés.

this is a great place for walking round the south coast, on a beautiful Wellington day its nice to walk around to Red Rocks, does lack any cafes

Good location with sometimes a wild surf. Watch out for the rocks. There's a good walking path with some great views of the South Island mountains on a clear day.

Absolutely gorgeous views all along this coastline, especially in the Red Rocks Reserve area. Best photos I have from our New Zealand trip were taken here.

Owhiro Bay is worth a visit. The south coast of Wellington is wild and woolly -even on a good day. My title says it all :-)

Need some cobwebs blowing away? Go for a wander around Owhiro Bay! It is a stony, seaweedy rock-pooly heaven. Home of the Taputeranga marine reserve, so good for snorkelling. A longer walk goes round to Red Rocks and the seal colony. There is a cafe overlooking the sea for refreshments.

Owhiro Bay has nothing special but cozy and nice atomosphere. If you really want to purely indulge an ocean view, Owhiro Bay is a choice. Very quiet and relaxing. One hour walk to Red Rocks where you can see wild seals.
