We decided to go to the Anzac Day Service here, as it was close to the Hotel we were staying at. The service was fantastic... the Church Choir singing, Brass band playing hyms..etc. Impressive, if plain Building compared to Cathedrals Overseas. Great Mosaic Madonna in the Alter Area.... very modern. Big Pinky structure near Parliament Buildings, so worth a look.... More

This is a sumptuous wooden building that served as Wellington's Cathedral for many years. If you haven't seen buildings like it, you really should look in.

Lovely little church 'behind' the main station, short walk up hill from government buildings. It's no longer used every day as a place of prayer. The day we were there a rock band were preparing for their concert to-nigh. nice quaint old feel about the place...but we won't be going to the concert to-night, neither of us are Black Sabbath... We walked to Old St Paul's on our last morning in Wellington. The lady at the desk inside was very knowledgeable and helpful. The church is lovely and I think everyone should see it - it's free after all.

Information about Old St Paul's is widely available, so no need for it here. However, it offers peace and quiet in a noisy, busy city. The windows and wooden features seem almost out of context in their urban location, which is perhaps why the building is so striking and memorable. It repays your time.

This is a beautiful building. I visited in the Christmas holidays so it was filled with festive decorations and there was also a wedding the next day so had lots of flowers. A truly amazing building worth popping into.

Honestly, I am neither schooled on architecture nore religious history but I was moved by the beauty and details of this monument. Enjoyed the helpful handouts that described all the key points of note. The people working there were very cool as well. I browsed the gift shop and enjoyed contributing to the ongoing availability of building like this. The... More

Thank goodness people had the foresight to save this wonderful building for posterity!A completely wooden structure in the heart of the city! Make sure you look at the church cloths.

To look up and see the wood that creates the ceiling was amazing. It's a ship built upside down. The wood on the floor again just amazing. We have been in many churches around the world and this one holds it's head high.

This is a quiet cathedral since it is no longer used for regular services, but shows what the old churches in Wellington and New Zealand must have looked like. The wood structure is amazing. Add to that a great gift shop where prices are as good or better than elsewhere in NZ - and even a clean public toilet!
