I did the half day Lord of the RIngs location tour with Wellington Rover and could not have had a better time. The tour guide was informative and clearly a massive fan and the locations visited beautiful. Because so many of the sets no longer exist in actuality I would probably recommend this to more die hard fans than casual... More

I went on the half-day tour with my mom in April 2013, and it was exactly what it advertises for: a LotR tour. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable; he took a part in the original movies and was hoping for a role in the new Hobbit ones. His passion for LotR and the job definitely showed through and in... More

I went on this because my boyfriend wanted to go, I was rather ho hum... anyway, it was a great tour and lots of fun. The tour guide was very friendly and a real mine of information on LOTR. He used to take tours in Queenstown so had a lot of knowledge. The tour took us to sites where scenes... More

Okay, so I read the other reviews, and saw complaints from people who were disappointed that they didn't get to see actual sets. This is a tour of LOCATIONS around Wellington, and it will especially make sense to people who have watched Peter Jackson's extended edition "appendices" -- If anything, I was MORE impressed to be shown how the filmmakers... We liked the attitude of the driver (Mike) towards us. His driving over the hill tracks was excellent with nothing to fear even though there were large drops on either side of the road. We did the Windfarm tour into the Makara area (62 turbines) and then down to the coast to the sealion colony. Mike's knowledge was inspiring -... More

We were so excited to see some of the scenery where LOTR was filmed around Wellington. We did see scenery and it was interesting to hear how movie magic transformed a local quarry, state park and other sites into Middle Earth. Unfortunately, we should have searched around a bit to locate a company that catered more to the the cruise... More

Listen, I'm a huge LOTR fan and enjoyed the morning. Was actually going to do the full day tour but this was fully booked and ended up doing the half day. Was kind of glad in the end, as it isn't cheap. If you're not a fan of LOTR, this is pointless. You will basically get shown trees, trees, a... More

Doing a LOTR tour was an absolute must for my travels around New Zealand. I asked in the Wellington tourism office and they recommended Wellington Rover tours. It was an even better tour than we could have ever hoped for. The tour guide picked us up from a location convenient for us and it felt like a private tour as... More

Our tours are very reasonable priced. The equivalent tour in Queenstown is nearly twice the cost of our tour and you see less. And talking on the tour is what the guide supposed to do! As you can see from the rest of the reviews, our clients love our tours and I will be encouraging my guides to continue talking... More

We enjoyed the Lord of the Rings half day tour despite the "rubbish" weather (the tour assistant's words not ours!) It was interesting seeing the location and yes you do need your imagination to picture the scenes. However the best part was seeing Nathan (an elf) and Kent (a Hobbit) and hearing their anecdotal stories about what it was like... More
