loved the ferry trip and the off the beaten track element- not at all crowded Sadly the mudpools were rather dry since NZ was very dry but I don't expect that could be avaoided

This is a nice leisurely couple of hours to wander through this park. The volcanic activity is impressive and the silica features created by the hot waters are amazing. We took loads of photos here and really enjoyed it.

Had a fabulous days visit to the Hidden Valley - it was awesome with lots of geothermal activity & geysers. It is well worth the visit here & the staff were very helpful. We visited with 2 kids, 8 and 11. The sort drive from Craters of the moon was well worth it. As usual, beautiful scenery along the way. We arrived to friendly, informative staff and had a much needed lunch and coffee (kids had delish hot chicolates with marshmallows) before heading over the river. Free wifi available too. A short drive out of town, arriving at a blue lake you can almost immediately board a little ferry boat to across the lake for the walk in the park. Boat driver does not smile.
