Fantastic variety of walking, mountain biking & horse riding trails. Everything from beginners through to more demanding biking & hiking trails, through lovely redwood & bush. Lovely relief on hot summer days. Everything is well sign posted & very helpful info center, where you can purchase maps if you need to.
You can also take your dogs on the walks...

This is a great place to walk under the big trees along well marked paths. Great place to walk on a sunny day. Must do in Rotorua.

This absolutely beautiful forest was little mentioned in most tourist information booklets, fortunately our B&B hosts recommended it to us. Go for a walk on the many paths it offers, the trees are so tall, the air is so fresh, the leaves are so green, and it's absolutely free!! You will fall in love with this forest.

We rented bikes at Planet Bike (http://www.planetbike.co.nz/index.html). Solid gear and our guide, Dave was first rate. There are trails for all levels of experience and this is a great way to experience the beautiful Redwood forests.

No admission required to take to any of the well marked trails; multiple options in length and terrain to choose from. The trail we chose was wide and well maintained. Along the way we...

We travel a lot, and have seen a lot of beautiful places, but when we rode our bikes into Whakarewarewa Forest, we almost fell over it was so breathtaking! There are trails for every level and is beautifully maintained.

This is easily the most beautiful forest I have seen in New Zealand. It feels magical and the sheer size of these majestic trees truly is awesome. I've been to the forest many times now and I don't think I'll ever tire of going there. It has lots of trails so there's something suitable for everyone - some as little...

We had a great walk there. The forest is clean, quiet and tourist-friendly with plenty of direction signs. It smells like sulfur in places. There is a really nice gift shop and a lot of parking spaces. And it's free!

My sister and I had an afternoon to kill near Rotorua and this was the perfect way to spend 3 hours. We hiked up a number of trails and were able to enjoy the beauty of the forest. It would have been awesome to rent bikes and really explore, but walking and climbing still makes for a great afternoon.
