Great trip - sunny, flat sea, and no wind. The trip takes about 4.5 hours and we saw common dolphins, orcas, petrels, australasian gannets, little blue penguins and shearwaters. The dolphins were busy herding pilchards for an afternoon snack but also came round the boat so we got really good views of them. The skipper seemed disappointed the we didnt... More

My partner and I did the whale and dolphin safari yesterday and I had to leave a review straight away because it was so amazing! Roughly 4-5 hours on a gorgeous boat, loads of room and fantastic staff. We sat outside at the front wrapped up warm and enjoyed taking in all the beautiful scenery listening to the captain telling... More

160 NZD for 4.5 hours of travel, I find it very reasonable, especially because you're sure to see whales and dolphins (if you don't see any during the trip, then you get a voucher to come again for free). The crew is welcoming and funny, which is appreciable. Some of them also graduated in biology (and/or connected fields), which is... More

We live locally and picked up a special offer from a daily deal site for this attraction. The weather was perfect and the sea was quite calm, it probably wouldnt be the thing to do in bad weather. We departed the Auckland viaduct and were introduced to the friendly, accommodating crew (Some of whom are active in Marine sciences so... More

The Auckland Dolphin and Whale Safari it is a nice activity to do while in Auckland, for adults and kids. The departure is at the Harbour. The boat has excellent young staff that not only find the dolphins and whales (the last ones not always) in the huge area that is Auckland Bay, but gives you a lot of information... More

This safari is definitely marketed towards tourists, but as an Aucklander I loved the day out on the water seeing Auckland from a different perspective, and (of course!) the various marine life. The crew are in contact with boats out on the harbour & so can head out to where whales are currently being seen, which is exactly what we... More

We didn't see any whales on this trip which was disappointing, but there were no guarantees given. We did however see lots of pods of dolphins and they stayed swimming along our boat for some time. It's a great day out and worth doing, but not if you're just coming along for the whales. The boat is really nice -... More

We went on a windy day - seas were choppy and we didn't see a single whale or dolphin. We did see half of our fellow passengers get seasick. More

Wow, what a fantastic afternoon! Dolphins - saw 3 pods of them, 2 of which ended up swimming alongside our boat. at one point we counted 15 common dolphins right in front of the boat, including some baby ones. Saw one Bryde whale - he was about 20 metres from the boat but close enough to admire the size of... More

How can anyone say No to a Whale and Dolphin Safari? I certainly couldn't on my last day in Auckland. Mind you, it is one of the more expensive excursions from the Harbor. There are a bevy of choices for much less than the 160 NZ Dollars I had to shell out for this approximately 4 hour expedition. The weather... More
