Just do it! Go for the top of the volcano too - it's worth it for the view. Will take all day but you won't regret it!

A Wonderful walk there is nothing like this elsewhere in New Zealand and it can be done in a day. We were bussed in and out. You have to be fit whilst stretches of it are flat there are sections where it is very strenuous. The devils staircase is about 500 steps climbing steeply. There is also a section where...

2nd to last day of the regular season (24th May, 2013) and it was perfect. A bit of snow the nights before, lots of people and blue skies. My Canadian mate loved it. Hard Yakka but worth every blister. Mt Taranaki behind us at the beginning, Lake Taupo in front at the end, and the ever present Mt Ngauruhoe beside...

I went on the crossing just a week after the entire trek was reopened and it was gorgeous. As long as you are prepared for the wind, sun, cold, etc. it is very enjoyable. I repeat, as long as you are prepared! I over prepared and was glad i did!

However due to volcanic activity the part of trek after blue lake was closed and we had...

With the pre-booked minibus we were collected from our lodgings and drove up to the carpark with toilets. The bus drive to and later pick-up required a 30$NZ per person; expensive but saving two dull hours walk. The carpark was early closed for free parking and some people who were not in time were send back to the road. That...

I visited the tongariro crossing and areas surrounding on recent trip to New Zealand. I did not do the crossing but the views from the lookouts were spectacular, the volcano is becoming active and the sight of the smoke against the blue sky and the lake in the foreground was magical.
Actually, this is my first great walk i did (by walking) in NZ, the first one was Abel Tasman by kayaking....
I did this walk in 3 days 2 nights instead of officaially say 4 days.
