It stands alone on the top of St Georges Tce and above a freeway .. the rest of the building was knocked down to accomodate the freeway.

There's not really a whole lot to the Barracks Arch, but it is an interesting point of Perth heritage, since the majority of the Barracks was demolished to build the nearby freeway canyon.

Retained when the barracks were demolished for the freeway. Better there than not, but it looks a bit lonely.

Unfortunately this is all that's left of what could have been a great colonial heritage building, with the freeway under it. But i suppose it would have been too expensive to retain when the freeway was built. As it is its just a simple structure you can see enough of as you whizz by in a car. Would be nice...

As far as I know, you can't get inside the arch, the rest of the Barracks were sadly demolished in the 1960s and all that's left is the Arch, build by convicts in the 1800s.

I remember walking throug the barracks when they were converted to government offices. Now the freeway & St Georges Tce have cut off what little remains of our history. Very poor planning. I hear that they want to cover over the freeway now. Typical!
