For tourists from overseas, this is a nice excursion for the day. For Australians and others who know what a real beach should be, spend the exra time and head for the surf coast.

Take the tram to St Kilda and stroll along the pier, and then stroll up the street and choose from a myriad of eating places. For an expensive but very nice food experience, try Goldfields.

Wonderful place and we visit every time. Markets fantastic and lots of stalls. Beach lovely with seals and blue penguins easy to see on the rocks. Great cafe scene along the whole of the main street. A pleasure to spend all day there.
