Make sure you check out the Prahran Market, it is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Heirloom purple carrots caught my eye in the abundance of produce, artisanal breads, flowers, cheeses, meats, fish, cafes, great coffee, what's not to love? More

As a long term local resident, I now only occasionally shop here. It has 'South Yarra' prices compared with Melbourne's Queen Victoria Market, the latter having the best range and competitive pricing. I agree about the butchers: a couple do well, but only on saturdays is there anythuing approaching a crowd of shoppers. Gradually, the amount of the market allocated... More

Started going there in 1986 and it has evolved positively over the years. It is wonderful, nothing much you can't get there from oranges to fois gras More

Went here recently - on a Friday lunchtime and it was mostly empty - a day when I would have thought it would be fairly busy. I had been here some time ago and the place seems to have gone downhill - I wonder if they are sufferering due to locals no longer shopping here as much. There are still... More

Always come to this market when visiting Melbourne. It is a lot more intimate than the Queen Victoria market. Lots of fun banter from stall holders and a grog shop with very reasonably priced ales by the case More

We stayed with-in walking distance and were here three times in the week we stayed in Melbourne. It is where we got our dinner when we arrived, our picnic lunch for a road-trip on the Great Ocean road, and our packed lunches for the Grand Prix. We took advantage of the one shops 4 for 10 deal of meats, olives,... More

Lovely local market for all types of food. Make sure you check which days it is open - currently closed Monday and Wednesday and only some stalls on a Sunday. Great breads, fresh fish, fruit, nuts, dips, cheese. Later on a Saturday fresh foods are sold off at a cheaper rate - so some good bargains. Also cheap flowers. More

Really enjoyed wandering around this market. The choice of meat/poultry stalls was amazing as were the vegetables. Was good to have the kitchen shops as well. All in all the market covered everything to do with cooking and to be cooked! More

Love that their mushroom stall and potato stand had varieties I couldn't find elsewhere. Their chicken sausages with oriental seasoning were delicious. Best place for cheeses and charizos from the deli. Seafood was a bit on the expensive side Love love love Essential Ingredient although not sure if it can be considered to be part of the market More
