We stayed in Hobart a couple of extra days so we'd be there for the famous Saturday Salamanca markets, and we weren't disappointed in anything except the cold, rainy weather (which did nothing to deter vendors or shoppers). Lots of fresh veg and hot food stalls, plenty of Tasmanian woodcrafts on show, some clothing stalls, some bric-a-brac, and lots of... More

An excellent diversity of produce, arts and crafts, hot food, clothing. Many store holders and a good atmosphere, We really enjoyed our walk around, but certainly no bargains to be had here. Nevertheless, well worth a visit, just keep your wallet in your pocket! More

This weekend market hosts a wide variety of stalls selling everything from clothes to hot food. It's a very busy market and stretches the length of Salamanca place. Car parking is available on the streets or inside the nearby car park. And be prepared to bargain with some of the stall holders! More

This is an institution for Hobart and my second visit, but it is not that special. There is a lot of local produce and local crafts and condiments but it just doesn't reach any heights...you could be at any tourist market in Australia. By all means check it out but keep the expectations under control. More

Within an hour of arriving in Hobart, we went to the Salamanca Market as it closed at 3pm on Saturday. The first stall that we came across was an antique stall and run by Chris and Jenny Hunter and we were $400 lighter by the time we left!..Thoroughly recommend this market to all as so many interesting things here! I'm not the greatest fan of the market scene. Often too many stalls selling stuff made far, far away (not in a good way) and too little variety. Salamanca is different. There is more variety, more good quality locally-produced items and stall holders who look genuinely pleased to be there. The market is in a lovely spot. Spend a little... More

Our family enjoyed being able to visit Salamanca Markets as we were in Hobart on a Saturday, so we went in the morning and found it was already very busy and continued to get busier! It is in a beautiful setting so well worth the experience and the hustle and bustle of the markets was fun to be part of.... More

The Salamanca Market is big enough to keep you absorbed, and small enough not to get lost. It is supported by local pubs, restaurants and points of interest. Here in this market you will find the finest of Tasmanian arts and crafts: wooden boats on raffle; jams and preserves; woollen garments; sculptures; paintings; jewellery; fresh produce and great coffee. In... More

When I arrived in Tasmania last October the first thing that came to my mind was… Shopping! Although I must admit that I was a little in shock when I found out that there were no big shopping malls in Hobart, unlike Abu Dhabi and Dubai where we have the one of the biggest shopping malls in the world. Mmm…... More
