I can see 'our' Mountain in all it's moods from my house. I go up there to walk often. My favourite time is in the winter. We get these amazing high pressure systems when it is sunny with not a breath of wind, (normally it's very blowy and chilly up there). It's gorgeous! you can see so much, all of... More

Well worth a visit, and only takes a couple of hours out of your day. We took a small coach up Mt Wellington (about a half hour drive) from the Hobart Visitor Centre. The roads up Mt Wellington are very narrow, steep and winding, so if you're not fond of heights or are prone to vertigo, sit on the left... More

On a clear day it would offer a great view of Tasmania. Our visit included fog and horizontal snow. But it was a nice drive. More

Don't forget to wear something warm if you decide to visit Mount Wellington, as it can get very cold at the peak. It can take up to half an hour to drive from the base to the peak of the mountain and the roads are very narrow and steep, so you will need a head for heights! The views are... More

I live in Hobart and take the local sights for granted (probably like locals everywhere). However, I really enjoy Mount Wellington and should spend more time up there. We recently drove up the mountain on a fine autumn day and were rewarded by finding pockets of snow at the summit. The views are breathtaking and provide a fantastic panorama of... More

Loved it, however, I was silly and dressed fashionably instead of warmly. I froze. The view is beautiful above the trees line, absolutely incredible. The roads wind around and around, such a pretty route. Take advantage of the toilets on the way there. Visit Fern Gully or Fern Tree on the way up. Lovely cafe with great staff opposite a... More

Get a totally different perspective on the Hobart environs when you make the trip to the top of Mt Wellington. If you're taking a car and employing a GPS, make sure that you're being directed to approach via Huon Rd toward Fern Tree. I don't know exactly where we were, but dirt tracks and hire cars are not meant to... More

Mount Wellington offer stunning views across Hobart and far beyond, almost to the east coast of Tasmania, it is wild, rugged and unspoilt. The weather can change without notice so take something warm to wear. More
