This is a must see in Coober Pedy - The self-guided tour kicks off with a machinery demonstration that had my husband well impressed. After questions and answers your led back into the store front and given directions for the self guided tour. Both my husband and I prefer these types of tours, you are able to set your own... More

Very friendly folks. A good choice for information on old time opal mining and underground living. Good value for a family and kid friendly - kids can noodle for opals.

An informative museum about Opal mining. We had a good time for about an hour or so wandering around the mine, it is a self guided tour so your on your own looking at the tunnels with a map. It's very informative and was good fun, oh and watch your head!!!!!!

I walked to Old Times from The Underground Motel, and back. Well worth the walk, very interesting and informative.

There are 2 "museums" in Coober Pedy but they are quite different so you really need to go to both. This one takes you into a real mine (no longer used of course) and is packed full of pictures and info about how the mine was worked. You get to see the tiny spaces they worked in and the basic... This is a genuine old mine well setup with very friendly staff. Hire a talking tour head set I found this very informative. There is a demonstration of a blower used to extract the dirt etc.

The attendant answered all of my questions and even helped me do a little noodling for opal. I found a couple of nice pieces that made great cheap souvenirs. The mine and the underground home are a great introduction to Coober Pedy and should be visited if you get a chance.

Fantastic museum documenting the history of one of the oldest if not THE oldest opal mine in Coober Pedy. If you only visit one mine while you are here, this should be it. Allow at least 2 hours, possible 3 if you want to read all the information, history and articles they have scattered throughout. One of the largest exhibits... More

This is THE place to see an opal mine, underground house and an overview of Coober Pedy's history in one go. Two nice and unexpected bonuses—picnic tables in the shade out the front and a shady fenced area where pets can sit outside the car.
