I rode three legs - Melb- Adel/Darwin- Alice/Adel - Perth. We wanted to do ALice to Adelaide also but they cancelled that segment after I had purchased the pass and made all the reservations. So we had to fly that segment and they gave me a $212 refund which I thought was very fair. I like the old cars as... More

Not hard to see why long distance rail is almost unheard of in Australia. On our outbound journey parts of a chair were broken, lights on the toilet were broken, even the door into the carriage couldn't be opened by the train staff who had to board through amother carriage! The carriages have been nicely refurbished, but they are 40... More

Travelled to Melbourne on the railway, just for the experience. It was a nice relaxing day watching the world steam by. We were in the Platinum seats. The staff were pleasant, food available from the Cafe was fresh with good selection. Only down side was the lack of alcohol on this trip but I was told it was an unlucky... More

My wife and I decided to travel to Melbourne from Adelaide by train as a change from flying. We were particularly looking forward to seeing scenery along the way. We decided to take the Red Premium option, which was about a $50 premium over the basic service. This provided inter alia, better seating and priority luggage handling (certainly no priority... More

My wife and myself decided to take the Indian Pacific from Adelaide to Sydney Platinum class. Then catch the Radiance of the Sea to Perth. Well the train couldn't get into Adelaide so we were bused up to Peterbrough, then after manually loading the train, everything was behind schedule. Chaotic would be the best desciption, waste of $2000 would be... More

They need to get a new phone message on their customer service centre or employ more people as we waited over 2 hours twice before giving up waiting for someone to answer on boxing day and the 27th . Would have been better if they had said they were shut! When we finally got through we discovered our car was... More

We rode the Indian Pacific Railroad from Perth to Sydney in late November, 2011. All employees were great! The platinum double accommodations were nice. We were fortunate to have extra cars on the train for the first two days, allowing use of the lounge and dining cars with few people. At Adelaide, one lounge car and one restaurant car were... More

The train was rather third worldish. A very expensive long journey, with the scenery hardly changing until we got to Murray Bridge. (But that's Australian scenery I suppose) More
