Just North of Townsville and off the highway is the winding road to Paluma and Little Crystal Creek. In the summer time the hot weather is washed away by refreshing rock slides and fresh water ponds is just beautiful. Paluma is significantly cooler than Townsville allowing much respite. The whole day is topped off with a Frosty Mango... a tradition... More

Despite the cafe being closed at the top (on a Tuesday if I recall), the drive was worth the effort! Beautiful location, great information boards, sparkling Little Creek for a look, paddle or cool swim. We drove from Townsville and should have gone to Big Creek as well. More

It is a beautiful area. Truly must go. You can even swim in Crystal Creek. The rapid is so fast, that you just stay in one spot and water is crystal clear and not too cold. Also there are couple of coffees with yum cakes and lots of very friendly, colourful native birds. More

Paluma is always a few degrees cooler and lovely to visit the Mountain village in Summer. Lots of rainforest walking tracks to enjoy. Great for a day trip from Townsville. Take a picnic! Crystal Creek is a great spot for a nice cool swim. You must be able to climb stairs, not good for very elderly or heavily pregnant (slippery... More

Don't book off a Tuesday to drive to Paluma. It's shut. Just shut. On a Tuesday. Not even a newsagents. Who knows if it's good or not? We don't because we went on a Tuesday. More

Not sure I want to share this secret with people. Little Crystal creek is awesome and only 40 minutes from Townsville. We went twice, our first time a couple of days before xmas when obviously everyone was still busy with shopping because the place was quiet with only a couple of other people. The next time was after xmas and... More

Check out paluma when you are around townsville or ingham. Defo worth the visit. Wood be good for a picnic and bbq. Beware of the boulders and rocks as they are really slippery where i got bruised up in the process. Will definitely come back next time around More

My family and I went to Little Crystal creek water hole with our 3yr old and 12 yr old. It was a lovely side trip on the way back to Cairns from Townsville. It is worth going to swim here but the rocks are slippery and young children may find the water too cold. We saw loads of butterflies and... More
