It's a wonder in this day and age, that an attraction such as this can remain available to the public at no cost. I would have been happy to pay an entrance fee, to see what is essentially small, but well inhabited zoo. We unknowingly timed our visit to co-incide with the afternoon keeper talks and feeding sessions, which made... More

I have been visiting Rockhampton Gardens for over 30 years and I was there again last week. It continues to grow and be a fabulous place to take family and friends. It is one of the few things in Rockhampton I always enjoy consistently. The kiosk is very plain and for some reason seems to always be having some problems... More

I had a spare day in Rockhampton and someone suggested the gardens. I was so suprised that the zoo entry was free, when I got there they had dingos, crocodiles, chimps, koala's etc. The koalas were the most active I have ever seen, they were extremely friendly too. While I was there a child was patting one through the fence.... More

Recently attended the gardens with my family and I must say it was amazing. The meals at the kiosk are of great value and the service is spot on. Much credit to the kiosk and also to the council for the work done at the zoo. It is one treasure Rocky is certainly proud of. Would love to see the... More

The zoo and gardens are fantastic. Just turn left straight after the tourist centre and follow the signs, and up passed the Mater hospital There is a kangaroo enclosure were you can walk in and get close to the animals. Lots of other animals to see especially the Chimpanzee's they are amazing to watch. There is also a Japanese garden... More

The gardens are ok, and the animals (cassowary, emu, kangaroos, wombats, dingoes and chimps) will be entertaining for small children or visiting foreigners. The grounds are well maintained and there is plenty of parking. But the highlight is the lagoon at the bottom of the hill; nice views for Rockhampton, and there are hundreds of turtles near the bank. Also... More

This is a great set up with everything from exotic birds, chimpanzee's, dingos, kolas, wombats, crocodiles, reptiles etc AND it is all FREE. The zoo is well maintained and we always end at the bottom feeding the ducks and turtles. The botanical gardens are beautiful and we often enjoy the playground, which is also well maintained. There is a cafe... More

The Botanic Gardens are well laid out and spread out, which makes them a wonderful place to stroll around when the weather is fine. And there are plenty of trees for shade on hot days (and most days are hot in Rockhampton for visitors:). The trees and shrubs have markers with their name and the region they come from. Part... We visited the zoo and had a really nice time. My child loves learning about the animals. There were a few spots that was not very well kept during our visit. Grass and trees were overgrown and we turned around from those areas fearing for snakes, etc. After the zoo, we walk around the Botanic Garden and had lunch at... More
