If you come to Cairns you must go on the skyrail. The view is fanstic. The town of Kuranda didn't do much for me personally although the skyrail and the train trip were excellent. The butterfly house in Kuranda is very good.

Yes, we traveled 10,000 miles and our Great Barrier Reef excursion was canceled due to Cyclone Zane. But the weather in Cairns wasn't bad and this was a great way to enjoy what Australia has to offer. We took the train ride up the mountain, saw a beautiful waterfall, and explored the village where we had lunch (kangaroo and crocodile...

We did a self drive tour so drove to Skyrail Caravonica, collected our tickets and off we went. Gondolas very clean. Lovely view over the treetops, into the rainforest and out over to the sea.
The breaks at Red Peak and Barron Falls with their little walks are not strenuous or tiring and informative. Interesting interpretation centre. Then to Kuranda....

A superb trip, up by train and back by cable car. Both were amazing, the railway because of the work required in the construction all those years ago and the Skyrail fot the amazing beauty of travelling over the forest back down. Truely magical despite the weather, we had cloud, rain and occaisional sun, the views were stunning. Worth every...

This was an exhilarating ride for 4 miles/7.5 km over the top of a rainforest. There were 2 stops with the chance to explore the rainforest for as long as you like before catching the next gondola.
The 2nd was particularly worthwhile with the possibility to walk to the side of a ravine and see a lovely waterfall.
Afraid of...

Took the railway up to Kuranda and the Skyrail down as recommended by... well practically everyone! The Skyrail was superb, starting with fantastic views over the tree canopy to the mountains beyond before arriving at the first stop Barron Falls. Boardwalks take you to a series of viewpoints over the falls. Another short gondola trip and you arrive at Red...

Kitschy town with Chinese imports. Skyrail and train were fine but not exciting. Given the cost, I can think of a lot of other things to do from Cairns than to do this trip.
Small gondolas with six person capacity take you over about 7.5 km/4 miles of tropical rainforest. There are two stops with walkways that allow you to get out and search for the birds and butterflies that inhabit the rainforest. Along the way, you pass on the other side of the gorge from where the Kuranda Railway runs. Unfortunately, we saw...

Loved the Skyrail... Stunning views from above the tree canopy, with 2 'station' stops where you can follow the board walks at your own pace and view the rainforest from the 'floor' I don't like heights but at no time was this ride frightening... If you get the chance, put it on your must do list :-)
We opted for Skyrail up to Kuranda, and then the Kuranda railway back to Cairns.
The skyrail was the longest cable carriage we have experienced to-date, with a total travelling duration of about 45 minutes. The total duration is broken up into 3 legs. Alighting at the first station awaiting was a park ranger who took us for a 15-min...
