Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns’ best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking the Barrier Reef and Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is closed for cleaning every Wednesday from 6am - Midday.

Loved that there are lifesavers until after dark... I did not have my watch on. Felt quite safe and it felt quite festive with people around us bbq'ing their dinner on the public bbq's. Water was clean. The pool is closed every Wednesday until 1230 for cleaning. It certainly looks clean. I can imagine it would get crowded in summer....

We were really impressed with this Esplanade swimming lagoon, as we wondered around Cairns after our ship docked there for a day. The weather was very hot, so this was a great place to sit, swim and enjoy a few hours. A must see if you are in the area.

We did not go swimming here but if we had had more time we would have been there. A great pool area right on the esplanade and free. There are also bar-b-que areas for picnics. I can only imagine this in the heart of summer. We were in Cairns in rainy season and even at night there were still people...

It s a nice place for families and couples ! We enjoyed every afternoon having sunbath and swimming in the most cristal water i¨ve ever seen .

I was unimpressed with Cairns as a city, but very impressed with the Esplanade Swimming Lagoon. What a great place to sit and chill for the afternoon. My kids LOVED it. They kept asking to go back. We went three times in our week in the Cairns area.

This is a very big swimming pool that is off the esplanade. It is a great place for all ages. It's clean and relaxing even if you just want to sit around to read or sun bathing.

This is a great place & popular with the locals as well as tourists. There's always lots happening & the kids have a great time, the parents as well. Seems to be plenty of space, looked clean & well policed.

Right on the ocean and gorgeous. Free gas Bar-B-Ques well maintained and clean. Lifeguards on duty all the time and open late

we enjoyed a late afternoon swim with my friends grandchildren plenty of room and the water was a lovely temp. and very clean. well looked after tidy grounds and everybody having a good time.
