In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot. « less

Takes 35 people so felt more personalised service. Young team of workers that were professional and fun, had good rapport between themselves which made for an enjoyable day. I am not a strong swimmer, someone stayed with me at all times, without their support I would not have ventured out snorkelling and missed out on a wonderful experience. More

Was thrilled to find a cruise company commited to smaller group tours (35 people tops), good local knowledge and friendly people! Felt like we got a really nice overview of the reef, lunch provided was yummy and the prices were very reasonable. Would go again :) More

Even though we didnt have luck with the weather the crew made this trip very special for me. I had lots of fun snorkeling in the rain with the most amazing corals and fish on the tip of my fingers. Breath taking. My advice is don't let the weather stop you because every experience is special. More

Awesome day. The most amazing locations ever; Michaelmas Cay and Hastings Reef. Friendly, helpful and FUN staff. Beautiful boat; smooth, comfortable ride and plenty of room - unlike other reviews, we felt that it was just perfect for the number of guests travelling. Morning/afternoon tea and lunch were delicious, filling and more than adequate! The fitting of all gear was... More

The boat was full when we went and there was plenty of room, we never had any issues walking round and finding somewhere to sit. The locations are lovely, the cay is a good place to relax on the beach and swim/snorkel. The snorkelling's not amazing there but nice enough (and a good place for people to practise if necessary)... We chose Seastar because it caters for a smaller group but we found the boat a little too small for 35 people. There weren't enough space for everyone to be comfortable, you can get a seat, but don't expect too much room. The best seats on the upper deck is at the back where you can enjoy the wind and... Overall really enjoyed our cruise. We did the introductory dive and it was good, but both my partner and I had some ear pressure troubles and our dive guide/instructor got a bit impatient. We switched to snorkeling for the second half of the day, and the guided snorkel was awesome. It's hard to go too far wrong with the Great... More

I did the tour two times in the last two years. Quite private and very nice. I noticed that the water seems to be much clearer in the afternoon when the low tide reached its maximum. So if you go diving, do it in the afternoon. There is not much to see in the water around the birnd island, so... More

This was a fantastic trip for us. The boat was full but there was plenty of room, unlike what some of the other reviews said. My husband was a first time diver and we were delighted that there were only three divers total on our cruise. We received personal treatment and had a great time. Thank you so much for... More
