So looked forward to this - even traveling cattle class. Beautiful scenery - sunset was special. Seats recline well enough, showers and toilets were clean. What I absolutely DON'T accept is the non-enforcement of the rules that they announced over the PA as we left the Alice. Passengers were allowed to sleep on the floors! Disgraceful - especially from a... More

Two adults and one child aged four, booked late like two days prior to departure. Also school holidays and luckily managed to get the last of seats up near the toilets/hower which has more room as end of seating. A guy moved twice for us (bless him) we then had more room for children to play with toys etc. Two... More

Kangaroo Red Sleeper Class Adelaide - Alice Springs: Check in didn't take too long considering the long line - very strict about the 20kg limit per bag. A cheerful beginning out on the platform as staff were individually introduced to rowdy applause - raising expectations of a special journey. We were warmly welcomed by Danielle who offered to take our... More

• Originally booked us in separate seats even though we booked at the same time. • Cheaper than the greyhound bus. Even cheaper if you are a member of YHA or something like that • Phoned to confirm the booking 24hours before and they had changed our seats • Easy and quick bag check in • Onboard food is nice... We had always wanted to see Central Australia and this is certainly the way to do it. Our original trip booked via the Great Southern Rail company was cancelled at quite a late stage. We had planned to go only to Alice and break our trip with a 5-6 day tour offered by the rail company out to Uluru and... More

Positives - landscape, great food, friendly staff, whistle stop tour at Katherine. Negatives - lounge running out of beer on the first evening and then " not getting permission to restock at Alice Springs", average age in gold & platinum is around 70. It is a great way to see the country but for a trip costing thousands of dollars... More

Many thanks for your feedback. We are happy to read that you enjoyed the fantastic scenery along the way and the hospitality provided by our staff. It is also welcoming to read that the highlight of your journey was the tour provided in Katherine as this is a relatively new offering. On another note, it is disappointing to hear that... More

We travelled from Adelaide to Darwin with the Ghan recently and cannot praise the staff and the organisation enough. We had a Platinum cabin and were treated like royalty. Champagne, chocolates, Baileys at bedtime! The arrangement within the cabin allowed for a relaxing seat during the day and a very comfortable bed at night. The ensuite was amazing!!!! We stopped... The Ghan is a significant achievement in connecting the north of Australia with the south, and you get an appreciation of the significance by riding it. I rode from Adelaide to Alice Springs. That part of the trip takes about 24 hours, and it seems to pass quickly. I chose Gold Service Single because at my age, I really wanted to... More

So many more Cons then Pros for this trip which I will list here for future travellers. Cons: Don't expect too much if booking online all you will receive is a brief email stating this is your confirmation please bring on day of departure. Bascially you will need to refer to the website. Do NOT rely on any of the... More

My partner and I along with another couple went platinum class on the Inaugural Anzac train April 2011, Adelaide/Darwin. I suppose with it being such an event, and a full car of media along, they went all out. I LOVED our cabin, compared to the double Gold Cabin I had on the India Pacific. The bathroom was huge and probably... More

Many thanks for your comments, we are glad to read that you enjoyed your experience in Platinum Service on The Ghan’s special ANZAC tribute. Regarding the food service, we aim to provide varied and high-quality contemporary offerings. We are disappointed you did not enjoy our meals on board the train. Great Southern Rail often receives high praise for its food... More
