Rereading the earlier review makes one realise that we gave very little detail on the second part of our trip. Heading east towards Alice Springs, the Mereenie Loop becomes Larapinta Drive, continuing via Hermannsburg and on to Alice Springs. The alternative is to head west from Alice to Glen Helen and turn southwards to Hermannsburg. Either way, an interesting detour....

On the way back to Alice Springs via King's Canyon, we elected to continue on along the Mereenie Loop towards Hermannsburg. The first few miles out of King's Canyon are tarmac before the earth track begins; there is a further short tarmac section over the Morris Pass but otherwise you have 150 miles of track before reaching Hermannsburg or the...
