If you are looking for a 360 degree view of Canberra and the lake, go to Commonwealth Park. You can see the library and high court emerge from the fog in the morning, or have a sunny afternoon BBQ with friends. Really nice location - limited parking, especially for special events - so get there early

There is something about the location of this place that tells me it should be great, but I have never been impressed with the tidyness, the service or the food. It is just so ordinary that having it in such a location is an insult to the town planners.

In any other city in the world this venue would be packed with families enjoying Canberra's sunny weekends, families with charcoal barbies, kicking footies, tossing frisbees, couples smooching on rugs, people sitting in the sun reading books, dogs running amok. It's a large green space in the middle of Canberra separating Canberra City from the Parliamentary Triangle. Around it are attractions such as Questacon, the High Court and the National Gallery. Wald along the man made lake - very impressive. Nice park. Check for events in the Park. Walk across the bridge and see the water jet - memorial to Captain Cook.

This park is highly under-rated. It is one of the lesser known parts of Canberra but is a really nice place to take a walk, take the kids or just find a shady spot to rest under.

This is a very uninviting photo. The park has lots of paths for cycling and walking. There is a waterfall and stream when water restrctions permit. The stone "castle" play area is very popular and it is a great place to picnic. It is also the home of "Floriade" mid September to mid October.

Take a picnic and enjoy the park and the wonderful views across the lake.Walk,take a bike,push a pram or run through this beautiful piece of Australian Bush park.Or.Just sit under the trees and enjoy the peace and tranquility.There is a cafe for coffee or a good lunch if you wish.Highly recommend it to tourist and locals alike.
